SuperFight Australia Another MMA and Professional Boxing event (Shooto 4) took place on Sunday, 15th June, 2008. This featured Connel from the MMA class in a heavyweight war. ______________________________
New Female Self-Defence & Cardio Class A new weekly Female Self-Defence & Cardio class has recently been added to the training calendar. This class teaches a skill-set for female self-defence and addresses the likely scenarios for assaults on women. The 1 hour training sessions also develop functional fitness. Visiting Kenpo Black Belt During March 2008, Tony Billman, the instructor from Melbourne's Australian Kenpo Concepts school visited our club to teach at some of our classes. An open invitation exists between our several of the other Kenpo schools around the country. ______________________________
King of the Cage Western Australia hosted its first King of the Cage (KOTC) event at the Perth Convention Centre on 5th October 2007. The main event featured local MMA star, Soa “The Hulk” Palelei who will be making his Ultimate Fighting Championship debut later in the year.
Also, Steve fought well against Elvis Sinosic trained fighter, Steven Micallef, but lost via strikes on the ground. ______________________________

Pre-Conflict Tactics The 2007 Kenpo in WA syllabus upgrade sees the introduction of the “Pre-Conflict Barricade”. This is a progressive set of tactics learned at each belt level. Pre-conflict tactics are designed to create a physical and/or psychological barrier with the intention of avoiding a conflict. The various types of barricade are also designed to create an advantage if an attack is inevitable. ______________________________

John Ward Kenpo Seminar
To hear is to doubt, to see is to be deceived, but to feel is to believe. ______________________________ Maurice Smith has 7 different world titles behind him and spent 11 years as the #1 World Kickboxing Association Champion. After he retired from kickboxing, he began his Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) career and became the first stand up fighter to win the UFC Heavy Weight title. On Sunday, 4th December 2005 he ran both MMA and Kickboxing seminars in Perth. ______________________________ Jeff Speakman is a 7th Degree Kenpo Black Belt. He was a personal student of Kenpo’s late Grandmaster Ed Parker, is an instructor to US government agencies such as the FBI and starred in the movie “The Perfect Weapon” (among others). On Saturday, 16th April 2005, he came to Perth for an afternoon seminar which was attended by many of the Kenpo in WA school, as well as some Goju Ryu Karate and Aikido practitioners. It was great to have a number of martial arts styles come together to train under an accomplished martial artists and skilled technician. [Photos from the day are in the MEDIA section]
KENPO GRADINGS Well done to Alan on grading to a long overdue Orange Belt on Thursday, 14th August 2008. ______________________________ There was a big grading held at the club on Thursday, 3rd July 2008. The value of persistence was shown by those now wearing new belts:

______________________________ Well done to those who successfully graded to new belts on Thursday, 28th February 2008. On the mat we now have a new Purple Belt (Graham) and new Yellow Belts (Ash, Simon, Leigh, Jason, Chris). ______________________________
Well done to our newest Kenpo Purple and Orange Belts – Phil and Marc (respectively). On 17th April 2007 they took part in a small grading and demonstrated an impressive level of ability. As a relatively new element of Kenpo in WA gradings, their demonstration of skills during the pre-conflict scenarios was particularly notable.
